Different systems, different tools
Hybrid vehicles run high-voltage battery packs, inverters, and DC-to-DC converters that no traditional car has. The diagnostic tools, the procedures, and the part numbers are all hybrid-specific.
Hybrids ask different things from a service shop. Battery diagnostics, regenerative brake systems, hybrid-specific maintenance. We do it all.

Boulder runs on hybrids. Prius, Camry Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, Insight, Niro. We service all of them with hybrid-specific tools, hybrid-trained technicians, and hybrid-honest diagnostics.
The systems are different. The tools are different. The safety protocols are different. The shop you trust should reflect that.

Working around 200 to 600 volts requires training and proper equipment. We follow lockout, isolation, and verification procedures every time. No shortcuts on safety.
Inverter coolant, hybrid transaxle fluid, regenerative braking calibration. These are not items a generalist shop sees often. We see them weekly.
Aging hybrid batteries are often misdiagnosed and over-sold. We test, we measure, and we tell you what is actually happening, not what generates the most revenue.
From routine maintenance to high-voltage diagnostics, we cover the full range of hybrid work.
Module-level testing to identify weak cells, capacity loss, and imbalance. Full pack replacement when warranted, with quality batteries and proper conditioning.
Brake fluid service, accumulator inspection, and regenerative system calibration. Hybrid pads wear differently than conventional pads and need to be matched correctly.
Inverter and DC-to-DC converter testing. Coolant leaks at the inverter are common on aging hybrids and we know how to spot and address them.
Battery cooling fans, ducting, and filters serviced to keep the high-voltage pack within its temperature window. Critical for battery life.
The 12V battery in a hybrid is often the cause of mystery no-start and warning-light issues. We test, replace, and rule it out before chasing bigger ghosts.
Oil, filters, transaxle fluid, coolants, and brake fluid all serviced to the hybrid manufacturer's specification. Not generic, not approximate.
The internal combustion side of a hybrid still needs the usual care. We service the engine and the hybrid transaxle as a single integrated system.
Toyota, Honda, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Lexus, Subaru. If it has a hybrid badge, we work on it.
These are the issues hybrid owners bring to us week after week. Pattern recognition is half the diagnosis.
Capacity loss, range reduction, and power complaints. Most common on hybrids past 150,000 miles. Module-level testing tells the truth.
Coolant pump and inverter seals develop leaks over time. Catching them early avoids inverter damage.
The auxiliary 12V battery causes far more hybrid no-starts than the high-voltage pack does. Often misdiagnosed by shops chasing the wrong symptom.
Brake fluid neglect, dragging calipers from underuse, and uneven pad wear. Hybrids brake differently and need brake service tuned to that.
Boulder altitude affects hybrids differently than it affects pure combustion vehicles. The electric motor delivers full torque regardless of elevation, which is part of why hybrids feel strong on the climbs out of town. The combustion engine still loses some power up high, but the hybrid system masks it.
Cold weather is the bigger story. Boulder winters cut hybrid fuel economy and electric range noticeably. Battery chemistry is temperature-sensitive. We help owners understand what is normal seasonal change and what is a real problem.
Regen braking wear patterns are also different here. Long downhills from Boulder Canyon and Lefthand Canyon get heavy regen use. Stop-and-go traffic in town gets even more. We track brake hardware condition with the hybrid usage in mind.
Less impact than on combustion. Electric torque does not care about elevation.
Real range loss in winter. Plan accordingly and we will diagnose anything beyond normal.
Mountain descents and city traffic both pull on regen braking. We check it on schedule.
Hot summers and cold winters both stress battery thermal management.
“I was told my Prius needed a $4,000 battery. Legacy did module testing, found two weak cells, and recommended I drive it as-is for now while saving for the eventual replacement. Honest in a way that earned my business forever.”
“Mystery warning lights on my Camry Hybrid for months. Two other shops were stumped. Legacy traced it to a weak 12V battery in an hour. Fixed for under $300.”
“These folks treat hybrids like they understand them, not like they are afraid of them. My Insight has not run this well in years.”
