Steering and Suspension Repair in Boulder, CO

Boulder roads ask a lot of suspension. Potholes, washboard gravel, mountain corners. We restore ride quality and steering precision.

Steering and suspension repair at Legacy Automotive in Boulder, Colorado

Full steering and suspension service for cars, trucks, SUVs, and lifted vehicles. Struts, shocks, control arms, ball joints, tie rods, sway bars, power steering, and complete lift kit installations. Done by ASE certified technicians who know what Boulder roads do to suspension.

What We Do

Steering and suspension, end to end.

Worn suspension shows up as a bouncy ride, a vague steering wheel, or tires that wear in funny patterns. We restore all three.

Strut and shock replacement

OEM, quality aftermarket, or performance options. Matched to your vehicle and how you drive.

Control arm and bushing service

Worn bushings cause clunks, alignment drift, and uneven tire wear. We replace what is failed.

Ball joint and tie rod replacement

Critical safety components. We test for play and replace before they fail catastrophically.

Sway bar end link service

Common cause of front-end clunks over bumps. Quick to replace, big difference in feel.

Power steering pump and rack

Hydraulic power steering service for older vehicles. Pump, rack, hoses, and fluid.

Electric power steering diagnosis

EPS module, motor, and torque sensor diagnosis with proper scan tools.

Leveling and lift kit installation

From a small leveling kit to a full long-arm lift. Done in shop with proper alignment to follow.

Warning Signs

How to tell suspension is worn.

If you notice any of the following, do not wait. Small issues become expensive ones quickly.

  • Bouncy or floaty ride over bumps
  • Nose dive when braking firmly
  • Clunking or knocking over bumps
  • Loose, vague, or wandering steering
  • Uneven tire wear (cupping, edge wear, feathering)
  • Visible oil on a strut or shock body
  • Drift or pull in turns
  • Knocking on rough roads or washboard gravel
Our Process

How we run suspension service.

  1. Road test

We replicate the noise and the feel under real conditions before we touch anything.

  2. Hands-on inspection

Every joint, bushing, mount, and connection inspected with pry bars and dial indicators where needed.

  3. Photo and video documentation

You see the torn bushing, the leaking strut, the loose ball joint. The diagnosis is visible.

  4. Replace what is worn

Quality parts, proper torque, fresh hardware. We do not reuse parts that should be replaced.

  5. Alignment after suspension work

Any suspension work that changes geometry gets followed by an alignment. Standard practice.

  6. Verify

Post-repair road test to confirm noise is gone, ride is restored, and steering is precise.

Why Legacy

Why suspension work belongs here.

Inspection before alignment

An alignment on top of worn suspension is wasted money. We check the parts first, fix what is needed, then align.

Lifted truck specialists

Lifts, leveling kits, long-arm conversions, and bump steer correction. We do this work in-house every week.

Performance suspension knowledge

Coilovers, adjustable dampers, and stiffer bushings for street performance and track work.

Warranty backed

Three-year, thirty-six-thousand-mile NAPA warranty on qualifying suspension repairs.

Built for Colorado driving

Mile-high roads ask more of every vehicle.

Boulder potholes are world-class. Washboard gravel on the way to trailheads, frost heave on shaded pavement, curb hits in the parking lot. Suspension parts wear out faster here than they do on smooth flat highways.

  • Altitude

Lean-running engines, harder-working turbos, and drivetrains that climb every commute.

  • Freeze cycles

Repeated thaw and refreeze chews through seals, hoses, batteries, and brake hardware.

  • UV and dust

High-altitude sun and grit accelerate paint, plastics, glass, and intake fouling.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

At least once a year, more often for high-mileage drivers, off-road use, or lifted vehicles. We inspect suspension at every alignment and every brake service so most of our regular customers get a check at no extra cost.
